CAP470 · Unit 7: Cloud application design and collaboration

Calendars, scheduling, task and project management and web-based communication tools

11 practice questions · in the ETE syllabus

Key points

  • Calendars, task boards, project charts and communication tools
  • Shared documents allow real-time co-editing
  • Gantt shows timelines; Kanban shows task states
  • Project length is the longest dependent path

Cloud collaboration tools let distributed teams work together through a browser.

A calendar detects a clash when one meeting starts before another ends and ends after the other starts, so 9-11 and 10-12 overlap but 9-11 and 11-12 only touch. Meetings across time zones are stored in UTC and shown locally: 10:00 UTC is 15:30 in India Standard Time (UTC+5:30). A Kanban board shows tasks in columns (to do, in progress, done) and a Gantt chart shows tasks as bars on a timeline. When tasks run in parallel, the project length is the longest dependent path, so tasks of 2 and 3 days in sequence (5 days) with a separate 4-day task give 5 days.

Exam trap: the project length is the longest path, not the sum of all task durations.

Question 1 · Tier 3, Apply

Which project management chart shows tasks as bars along a time axis so that overlaps and dependencies are visible?

  1. Pie chart
  2. Gantt chart
  3. Histogram
  4. Scatter plot
Show the answer

B. Gantt charts are the standard timeline view in project management.

Why not A: A pie chart shows parts of a whole.

Why not C: A histogram shows a distribution of values.

Why not D: A scatter plot shows two variables against each other.

Question 2 · Tier 3, Apply

What is a Kanban board?

  1. A firewall rule list for network traffic
  2. A table of encryption keys for a cloud account
  3. A log of every login to the cloud console
  4. A board with columns such as to do, in progress and done that shows the state of tasks
Show the answer

D. Kanban makes work visible by moving cards across columns.

Why not A: A rule list belongs to network security.

Why not B: Keys are managed separately.

Why not C: A login log is an audit record.
