Learning from failures, embracing challenges, accepting feedback and building resilience
10 practice questions · in the MTE and ETE syllabus
Key points
- Resilience is recovering and continuing
- Accept, analyse, adjust and retry
- Constructive feedback is specific and about behaviour
- Turn feedback into an action plan
Resilience is the ability to recover from setbacks and keep going. A healthy response to failure follows a loop: accept the setback, analyse what went wrong, adjust the plan and try again. Failure of a task does not define a person; treat it as information.
Embracing challenges means treating a difficult task as a chance to stretch skills instead of avoiding risk.
Accepting feedback: listen without interrupting, ask for specific examples, thank the speaker, and agree on an action plan. Defending, ignoring or complaining to colleagues wastes the feedback.
Constructive feedback is specific, focuses on observable behaviour rather than personality, and suggests how to improve.
Example: after a failed interview, a candidate who asks for feedback and practises the weak areas shows resilience and openness.
Exam trap: blaming others or hiding failure feels safer but blocks learning.
